Ferrari 599 GTB

Ferrari 599 GTBIf you are fortunate enough to have been enjoying the fabulous Ferrari 599 GTB since before before the high performance handling HGTE package was introduced, the Italian automaker is now giving you a chance to install the system as an Aftermarket Package.

The package (for pre-2008 599 GTB Fioranos) will only set you back $28,300 and will upgrade your GT machines handling significantly, as well as include a new exhaust system and some styling upgrades. For post-2008 models equipped with the F1 Superfast transmission, the price jumps up to $32,400 and adds an additional performance kit.
So for the price of brand new Mitsubishi Evo X, or the transponder watch for the new DBS you can have a Ferrari 599 that will run circles around the F-40 and maybe give Scuderias a run for ther money on the track, We think that it is well worth it, after all, what’s 30K when you already spent over 300 thousand dollars for an outstanding automobile. Why not make it even better?

Ferrari F-450 spied outside the factory in Maranello

Ferrari F-450 spied outside the factory in MaranelloThere are a lot of factors that go into making a good spy photo. First, you must find an interesting subject that people will pay big money to have a look at. Second, choosing the location is almost as important as the vehicle being shot; racetracks are popular locations but factories can be even better. However, nothing is more important than being in the right place at the right time. That is exactly what happened with this fortunate spy photographer when he spotted the upcoming Ferrari F-450 outside the factory in Maranello right at the moment that Ferrari decided to take the car out for a test ride.
Under the deck lid, Ferrari will use a 4.6 Liter V8 to power the F-450 that will send a screaming 520 HP to the rear wheels. As we’ve said before; this means that the future mid engine Ferrari car will be even quicker than the factory tuned F-430 Scuderia. In typical Maranello fashion; the Italian automaker plans on offering the upcoming F car in both a coupe and spyder layouts.
Although the automaker hasn’t supplied any official details, it would be interesting to see this next generation super car feature Ferrari’s hybrid all wheel drive system to not only improve fuel mileage, but traction as well.

Renault prepares 275 HP version for the 2.0 Liter engine

Renault prepares 275 HP version for the 2.0 Liter engineThe French automaker Renault is preparing a few surprises for us for the Frankfurt Motor Show. One of them is a factory tuned 275 HP version of the 2.0 Liter TCe gas burning engine that will add a very healthy dose of sport to the automobile manufacturers lineup. The only problem is that Renault still hasn’t confirmed which model will be lucky enough to be motivated by the hot rod power plant.
Current speculation suggests that there are two possible models that will benefit from the turbocharged four cylinder engine. One of them is the special edition Renault Megane 3RS and the other is a Gordini version for the Megane. Either way it would be very nice to see a Megane with the potent power plant under the hood no matter which label accompanied it.
Aside from the boosted Megane, Renault is planning on unveiling a special edition five door version of the Megane RS at the upcoming Paris Auto Show. Following their official debuts both the three and fiver door models will go into production in November.

Alfa Romeo 8C Spider

Alfa Romeo 8C Spider$300,000 is a lot of money to splurge on one item. Then again, if that ‘one item’ in particular is an Alfa Romeo 8C Spider, then it might be the best $300 grand purchase you’ll ever make.
Don’t get us wrong. We are by no means advocating anyone to spend their entire life savings on one vehicle. We’re just saying that if you had that kind of money to waste, then an 8C Spider wouldn’t necessarily be a bad tab to put on your credit card.
The 8C Spider – the convertible version of the 8C Competizione – is as expensive as it is rare with only 500 vehicles set to be produced, including only 35 set to hit US soil. Owning one would not only give you instant credibility, but you’ll also be noted as one of the lucky few to purchase Alfa Romeo’s most expensive production car in its 99-year history.
The problem is, with the limited supply, you’ll probably face stringent competition for these bad boys and Maserati North America - which, incidentally is the exclusive dealer for these cars - will know that with the escalating demand for these limited cars, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll have to shell out more than $300 K for the 8C Spider.

380 HP Audi TT-RS by Mcchip

380 HP Audi TT-RS by McchipThe Audi TT RS is a phenomenal automobile directly from the manufacturer, but what if you want a little more than the standard car’s 335 HP? That is why there is an aftermarket, and the tuners at McChip Dkr. are ready and waiting to transform your RS badged Audi into an even better performance machine. Starting out with the company’s Stage 1 package, the 2.5 Liter inline five cylinder engine is tuned to produce 380 HP and 405 lb-ft of torque all accomplished with a reprogrammed ECU that also raises the TT’s top speed to 186 MPH, all for only 889 Euros.
Over the next two to four weeks, the McChip will also unveil their Stage 2 performance package for the four ringed sports car. This next level package will boost the 5 cylinder engine’s output to 400 HP. Aside from the increase in engine output, the tuners at McChip have decided to upgrade the RS’s rolling stock with a set of stylish 20 inch wheels from Cargraphic wrapped in sticky Continental tires to make the most out of the TT’s new found power, after all one of the more important aspects of any performance vehicle is where the rubber meets the road.

Dodge Circuit EV

Dodge Circuit EVRevealed earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show, the Dodge Circuit EV has been finally confirmed for production. Lou Rhodes, Chrysler’s ENVI division president has stated that the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle will be launched next year. The electrified sports car will compete with mdoels like the Tesla Roadster, but at a lower cost.
The car’s chassis will be assembled in Europe by the engineers at Lotus and then shipped back to U.S. for the electric drivetrain to be installed. The car has already undergone significant testing. After the Circuit EV is launched, Chrysler awill add a lineup of electric sedans, SUVs and crossover models to their range of vehicles.
The Circuit EV is powered by a completely electric ENVI drivetrain that delivers a maximum output of 268 HP. That much power allows the Circuit EV concept to go from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds, while top speed goes up to 120 MPH.

Cobra N+ creates one cool Nissan 370Z

Cobra N+ creates one cool Nissan 370Z The Nissan 370Z is a great car as it comes from the factory, but Cobra N+ decided that they could improve upon perfection with a few tasteful touches. Cobra Technology and Lifestyle revealed this new aero accent package for the Japanese sports car consisting of a few carbon fiber replacement parts like the front spoiler, rear diffuser insert and mirror covers.
The aggressive exterior accents are accentuated by a set of 19 inch O.Z. Superleggeras measuring 9 inches wide up front and 10 inches in the back. Although the Cobra N+ doesn’t pop the hood, they do free up a few horsepower and improve the Z car’s tone with a sport tuned stainless steel muffler complete with a pair of 120 mm tips. With a few simple touches Cobra N+ has put their own spin on the Nissan 370Z and it looks phenomenal, although that’s not to hard when you start with such a great car.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette V7 Twin Turbo @ Russo and Steele

1963 Chevrolet Corvette V7 Twin Turbo @ Russo and Steele It’s not too often where you see a vehicle that grabs everybody’s attention at the mere sight of it. But that’s what this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette V7 Twin Turbo commands: your unbridled attention.
Combining the true heritage of America’s sports car with modern-day super car technology, this original Corvette Stingray coupe was reinvented to become an attraction everywhere it goes.
Created by Phil Somers and Art Johnson, with the help of Mark Harlan of the fabled Harlan Design Limited, the ’63 Corvette was given a twin-turbo 1,000 hp Chevrolet LS motor, a monster engine that can run roughshod over even the fastest of sports cars. In addition to that, the car was also built around a GT-inspired architecture that assimilates a mid-engine race-inspired tube chassis and a Mendeola sequential paddle-shifted transaxle.
Despite having built a reputation as a tried-and-tested sports car, this ’63 Corvette takes the boundaries of unbridled speed and power and, as a result, has been transformed to an authentic super car.

Porsche Panamera laps Nurburgring in 7:56

Porsche Panamera laps Nurburgring in 7:56 The German sports car maker Porsche finally has something to brag about when it comes to ‘Ring times. When John Heinricy piloted a Cadillac CTS-V around the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 59 seconds it officially gave General Motors the title of having the fastest four door to conquer the Green Hell. However, the title no longer belongs to America, it is now the German’s time to shine. Porsche’s test driver was able to complete the 12.9 mile circuit behind the wheel of a Panamera Turbo in just 7 minutes and 56 seconds. The luxury four seater bested the pride of General Motors by a full three seconds.
The Porsche Panamera Turbo is powered by a 4.8 Liter turbocharged V8 that makes 500 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque that make the new Porsche sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.2 seconds in just 4.0 seconds with the with the Sports Chrono mode enabled, and hit a top speed of 188 MPH.
This is good news since the last time the words Porsche and Nurburgring were in the same sentence, the name Nissan wasn’t too far off. This is even bigger because news because it comes on the heels of the recently released in car video evidence of Toshio Suzuki setting the 7 minute 26 second record that the German automaker demanded as proof. Now the video doesn’t show what kind of tires are on the car, but we’re sure all that was well documented.

Mirror-Finish Audi R8

Mirror-Finish Audi R8 Usually when you see a mirror-finish car you expect to be owned by an Arabian guy. But this Audi R8 seems to be an exception although it is most likely destined for some oil rich Saudi Arabian sheik, the car has been spotted in Europe. The chrome finish is quite a symbolic finish for the Audi super car. It was not the Lemans Quattro concept car from 2003 that the R8 is based on, but the blingy Avus concept car that got the ball rolling back in 1991.
According to the Audi Internet Forum, Fourtitude, Audi Exclusive takes care of special requests like this reflective paint job. However due to the limited supply of shops that can apply this kind of finish it is believed that it was built due to a customer’s demand by a specialized tuning house located in the area.
There is no mention of whether this is a V10 powered vehicle or not, but regardless the owner’s choice to black out the emblems and carbon fiber side blade that is a signature of the Audi super car. However being such big fans of the wavy black stuff we would have just sanded down the clear coat to compliment the dull accents. Either way this is one impressive custom R8.

Bertone Mantide to smash Corvette ZR1’s Nurburgring lap time

Bertone Mantide to smash Corvette ZR1’s Nurburgring lap time A few weeks ago Top Speed announced that the Bertone Mantide will have a limited production run of only 10 units, priced at $2 Million each. The next big news from the Italian design studio, is that according to Bertone the Mantide super car will smash the car it is based upon, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1’s Nurburgring lap time of 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds.
According to Jason Castriota, the project’s chief designer: "It has been a dream of mine from the outset of this project. The logistics are not easy, as we’ll need to hire a professional driver - somebody who’s truly a Nurburgring expert like Stefan Roser - and then get the circuit closed for a few days."
If they can ever find their ring-meister, the Bertone Mantide’s LS9 power plant that makes a total of 638 HP allow the Italian muscle car to go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 217 MPH, about 12 MPH faster than the ZR-1.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni spotted in Paris

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni spotted in Paris It has only been a few days since Lamborghini officially unveiled the special edition Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni and the car has already shown up in a Paris dealership. Where better for this car to make an appearance than the fashion capital of the world, and if you are looking for a brand new speed machine, why not go to where they are sold. Thankfully there were a few cameras on hand to record what this rear wheel drive Lambo encounter.
The Gallardo LP 550-2 is powered by the same 5.2 litre V10 engine from the four wheel drive version and is a fully tuned version of the one in the upcoming R8. In the Gallardo it makes 550 HP. Weighing in at only 3042 lbs, the Italian super car can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 199 MPH.
The rear drive raging bull will be limited to only 250 units, priced at $219,800 each. Not since the Diablo has the Italian automaker offered a rear wheel drive dream machine, taming this beast would be quite a treat at any price.

Lutz confirms Cadillac CTS-V coupe

Lutz confirms Cadillac CTS-V coupe Until now there has been quite a bit of rumors about a future Cadillac CTS-V coupe, now it is official: Bob Lutz confirmed that the company is indeed preparing a coupe version of the high performance CTS-V, although CTS-V wagon hopefuls will have to wait for a future update.
"As of now, the V package is planned only for the sedan and coupe." As for more CTS-V models – specifically a Sport Wagon variant – Lutz said, "... should sufficient demand materialize, there is no reason why we couldn’t do a V-Series wagon, and I would be standing in line for one, just ahead of you."
The CTS-V is powered by a 6.2L LSA supercharged V8 engine that will deliver 500 HP and allow the Cadillac to become a serious competitor with other factory tuned machines like the BMW M3 Coupe.

Lotus has begun Evora deliveries

Lotus has begun Evora deliveries The light weight sports car manufacturer Lotus has already delivered a few of the company’s newest four passenger mid engine speed machine to European dealers for demonstration purposes. Customers who have already paid for their Lotus Evora’s will only have to wait a few more months because their vehicle’s are on the way as well.
The Evora is powered by Toyota’s all-aluminum 2GR-FE 3.5 Liter DOHC V6, with intelligent variable valve timing (VVT-i) on both the intake and exhaust camshafts to get the most out of this 21st century power plant. The light weight six cylinder delivers 276 HP and 252 lb-ft of torque through a Toyota sourced six speed manual gear box. Lotus engineers are currently working on a close-ratio version of the same unit intended for a more sport inspired driving experience. With that much brute force under the engine cover, the Lotus Evora should be able to run from 0 to 60 MPH in under 5 seconds.
After the international press event in Scotland, only good things were being said about the new Lotus. According to Car and Driver, “With a firm but not punishing ride, the Evora is planted and secure yet runs through corners with the light and playful feel endemic to mid-engine cars - think Ferrari F430, only with slightly sharper steering;” and that “The Evora rocks. It looks fabulous, it’s a quantum leap up in Lotus refinement and drivability, yet it retains the feathery, purebred feel of its feisty two-seat siblings” thanks to Motor Trend’s representative at the event. It looks like the new Evora is quite a machine, we just can’t wait until they start popping up here in the U.S.

BMW might build M version for the 1-Series

BMW might build M version for the 1-Series In a recent interview with Automotive News, the new head of BMW’s M Division, Dr. Kay Segler, said that the German automaker is considering an M badged version of the entry level 1-Series. On the other hand he said that future M7 is not currently in the cards because its elevated development cost and the return on investment just isn’t there. There is also the question as to what the M1 will ultimately be called so not to confuse it with the original mid engine M1 super car which was the concern BMW’s design team faced when they came out with the 1-Series tii hot rod.
Q (Automotive News): How about a 1-series M or an M based on the new X1 crossover coming to Europe later this year and to the United States in 2011?
A (BMW’s Dr. Kay Segler): “You need an entry into M pricewise, but whether we can do that economically has to be determined. Dreams are always there, but we have to pay for them. An X1 is not a car that we would have.” “Give me a year or so to look into the 1 series.”
Stay tuned to Top Speed for future information regarding a factory tuned production version of the baby Bimmer, the 1-Series.

Mitsubishi EVO X by AMS Performance

Mitsubishi EVO X by AMS Performance It has been a while since we have heard anything about a modified Mitsubishi EVO X here on Top Speed, so we were ecstatic when the American tuner AMS Performance shared the news about their new tuning program for the rally bred rocket. The AMS package transforms not only the appearance of the turbocharged all wheel drive diamond star powerhouse, but refines every aspect from handling to horsepower.
The exterior modifications include a carbon fiber rear spoiler made by the lightweight experts at APR as well as a trunk, made from the wavy black stuff. Up front air is motivated away from the underside of the car resulting in an increase in down force thanks to a Voltex front splitter. The carbon fiber theme continues with the hood, but the piece de resistance are the 18 inch rims wrapped in so much Dunlop Direzza rubber that AMS had to spend some time rolling then fenders. Inside of the oversized rollers AMS decided to go with a big brake kit from Stoptech consisting of a pair of six piston calipers up front and two more four pod units in the rear.
Under the hood AMS reworked the 4B11 to handle big amounts of boost by starting out with a set of stronger valve springs to eliminate any possible power robbing valve float, a set of ARP head studs to keep the two machined aluminum ingots together no matter how much compressed air pushes them apart. After significantly strengthening the engine, AMS focused on making power. A reprogrammed ECU controls four 800 cc injectors that are fed by a CNC fuel rail that supplies enough go juice so that the Forced Performance Red turbocharger can compress enough air to make 385 HP.

Triumph TR coming back?

Triumph TR coming back? There’s no secret anymore that Triumph is planning a big coming back. And it seems that the first model to be revived is the TR. A new model, based on the classic TR4 will come as a premium alternative to the Mazda MX-5.
BMW will add to its portfolio by reviving a classic badge – and Triumph is top of the list. The historic British marque, which the maker took over when it bought MG Rover in 1994, would be a clear choice to market a rival for the new, Chinese-owned MG TF roadster. Just as the new MINI’s design was heavily influenced by the Sixties classic, a reinvented Triumph would be a retro remake.
BMW is committed to launching more premium models as it bids to gain a bigger slice of the most lucrative areas of the new car market.

Corvette: not just America’s sports car

Corvette: not just America’s sports car Chevrolet has long called the Corvette “America’s Sports Car,” but that doesn’t satisfy State Represntative C. B. Embry of Kentucky. He wants the Corvette named the state’s “official sports car.” After all, they build them in Bowling Green, Kentucky.Rep. Embry has introduced legislation before the General Assembly in Kentucky to make that proposal a reality.Of course, it’s a touchy topic. Not only does GM make the Corvette in Kentucky, but Ford also makes Explorers and Super Duty pick up trucks in the state. And Toyota build Camry’s there, too. Embry responds that he’s not trying to make Corvette the state car, merely the state sports car.Embry is enjoying himself with his proposal, and he has a point that other legislator should perhaps follow: “Everything we do is not a big earthshaking thing like healthcare or pensions. It is nice to slide in a fun thing from time to time.”Embry, for the record, is a Republican serving his third term in the Assembly.

Honda brings S2000 hybrid replacement in 2012

Honda brings S2000 hybrid replacement in 2012 The unfortunate demise of Honda’s light weight rear wheel drive roadster has sparked a tremendous amount of interest from driving enthusiasts about an S2000 successor, well good news, the Japanese automaker is planning on bringing a new fun to drive vehicle to market and it could be as early as 2012. However, according to the latest rumors about the new Honda, the only thing that the future automobile will have in common with the S2000 will be the number of doors.
The original S2000 was praised as a marvel of engineering, the F20C 2.0 Liter naturally aspirated four cylinder engine made well over 100 HP/Liter with the help of V-TEC, this set a new standard for lightweight high output engines that was previously seen with Mazda’s 13B turbocharged rotary power plant. The future Honda sports car will feature a lineup of low emission engines that will be tuned more for economy than for fun. Unfortunately for those who adored the S2000 for bringing back the light weight rear wheel drive sports coupe, the future model will be driven by the front wheels.
Unlike the S2000’s rag top, the successor will feature a retractable hardtop, an added luxury over the previous model, but at the cost of a few extra pounds. In order to compensate for the extra weight, the successor to Honda’s memorable roadster will utilize a hybrid drive train, most likely the same unit that will go into the upcoming Honda CR-Z.
